What is the Bravo™ pH Monitoring System?
The Bravo™ pH Monitoring System is a catheter-free way to measure pH. The Bravo system involves a pH capsule, about the size of a gel cap, that is temporarily attached to the wall of the esophagus. The Bravo™ pH Capsule measures pH levels in the esophagus and transmits readings via radio telemetry to the Bravo™ Receiver worn on the patient’s belt or waistband.
What is a Breath Test?
Helicobacter pylori tests are used to detect a Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in the stomach and upper part of the small intestine (duodenum). H. pylori can cause peptic ulcers; however, most people with H. pylori in their digestive systems do not develop ulcers.
The breath sample is collected when you blow into a balloon or blow bubbles into a bottle of liquid. The entire test takes about 30-45 minutes.
Colonoscopy is an outpatient exam that is performed with the patient lightly sedated. The procedure provides significant information used to which specific treatment will be given. In certain cases, therapy can be administered through the endoscope. Serious complications rarely occur from colonoscopy. Colonoscopy is the visual examination of the large intestine (colon) using a lighted flexible fiberoptic or video endoscopy.
Upper GI endoscopy, sometimes called EGD, is a visual examination of the upper intestinal tract using a lighted, flexible fiberoptic or video endoscope.
During an ERCP, dye is injected into the bile and pancreatic ducts using a flexible, fiberoptic endoscope. Then x-rays are taken to outline the bile ducts and pancreas.
Flexible sigmoidoscopy is a procedure in which a trained medical professional uses a flexible, narrow tube with a light and tiny camera on one end, called a sigmoidoscope or scope, to look inside your rectum and lower colon.
Esophageal manometry is a test that records the strength and coordination of the muscle contractions in the esophagus (swalling tube).
Paracentesis is a procedure to take out fluid that has collected in the belly. This fluid buildup is called ascites. Ascites may be caused by infection, inflammation, an injury, or other conditions, such as cirrhosis or cancer. Paracentesis also may be done to take the fluid out to relieve belly pressure or pain in people with cancer or cirrhosis.
Small bowel enteroscopy allows physicians a direct look at the small intestine using a lighted flexible tube with a tiny camera that transmits pictures of the small intestine to a video screen. The doctor can examine the small intestine for ulcers, inflammation or disease.
Capsule endoscopy is a procedure designed to help your physician see what is happening inside parts of your gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The GI tract is the tube that extends from the mouth to the anus in which the movement of muscles digests food.
